at home | almost crawling | in the mirror!

So, I've been a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM) now for one whole week! It is definitely a weird feeling, and I have not yet weaned myself (nor do I plan to) from the library, which I consider my second home. I hope my library friends don't start rolling their eyes every time they see me and Ellie approaching, mumbling "here they are again!" under their breath. Storytime on Wednesday was great fun, and I even got to see some of my ex-coworkers again on Friday when I dropped by to return a book. I love that they have kept my desk empty for the time being with a cartoon self-portrait that I drew taped onto my chair. My boss said she would leave my area untouched for a while during the "mourning process." So sweet!

So what else have we been up to besides visiting the library? Well, I decided that I had to step up my game and start cooking for Ryan and I, now that I'm a SAHM. What you need to understand is that Ryan is a wonderful cook who has done most (ok, pretty much all) of the cooking for us up to this point. He's one of those guys who throws together whatever we have lying around to create a fabulously delectable meal. I, on the other hand, suck at cooking - unless it comes to guacamole and clown balls. I cling desperately to recipes and find the entire process a bit harrowing.

But this week, I broke out the slow cooker and a previously untouched cookbook, and managed to put together a rather delicious meal. It was called "Sweet and Spicy Lentil Chili," and I was so proud of my creation that I had to take a picture:

Sweet and Spicy Lentil Chili - yummy!

On the Elliott front, our little monkey has been getting closer and closer to crawling. She is able to propel herself around the room at a pretty quick pace, though it can't yet be called "crawling." Here are some pics to show her incredible progress:

Elliott is a source of almost constant entertainment for her Mommy. Here is a video of her checking out that strange reflection in the mirror, complete with hitting and attempted kissing. It cracks me up how she keeps turning to lunge at me and the camera, and then turns back to the mirror. All I can think when I watch her playing with her reflection is that she must be so darn confused!

  1. Ah yes, cooking. I have some good recipes and have recently become a fan of freezer meals. I make up a bunch of meals in a day and then have about 10 meals for the freezer and one night a week I can just pull one out, throw it in the oven, and have a very healthy and tasty meal on the table. It's a must for the when the little monkey gets bigger and makes it harder and harder for you to cook! =)
    PS
I still go to the library on a weekly basis and they haven't kicked me out yet!!

  3. And, by the way, I demand more videos. I want videos galore. They keep me happy over here so far away from my munchkin. More, more, more... :)
