first potty, first hair cut, first of the year!

Happy New Year, everyone! Our New Year's Eve was quite eventful, even though we didn't go out on the town partying until 4 am or anything wild like that. Instead, we gave Elliott her first potty, complete with some potty-themed books to get her psyched, and then we gave her a much needed haircut.

Just so you know, we aren't actually potty-training yet; we know she's not developmentally ready, as she could care less if there's pee or poo in her diaper. In fact, she gets pretty mad when we change a full diaper, preferring we just leave it alone so she can play. She also never lets us know if she has to go or if she just went. She was still pretty interested in the little white potty we gave her though. She seems to think it's a receptacle for her toys or a car of some sort, and she enjoys sitting in it facing the wrong way - which is exactly what she did a few minutes after we presented her with it. And despite our best efforts, she pretty much refuses to sit in it the "correct" way. Oh well, you gotta start somewhere, right?

Vroom, vroom!

She would rather sit on it backwards for some reason!

We finally got her turned around.

And what better way to kick off the New Year than with a new haircut? I think we can safely say this was her first official haircut since the last time was a mere botched up bang trim. The back of her hair was getting so straggly and was looking slightly mullet-like, so we decided to go with a good old-fashioned bob, keeping the front long so we didn't have to deal with crooked bangs and sharp scissors near the eyes. We sat her in front of the TV, put on her favorite show to keep her still (worked like a charm!), and then Ryan went to work. It turned out much shorter than we planned, but we are happy with the adorable results. I have to say, the cut makes Elliott look even less like a baby and more like a little girl. Check her out!

  2. Bravo, Ryan! What a great job...didn't hurt that you had the most perfectly adorable model! She was so cute when I was talking to her yesterday :) I know potty training will go well, even though she does seem to like poo in her diaper haha! Love you!

  3. When Ian was first learning to use the potty, the biggest setback he experienced was when Adrienne was adjusting him on the seat and "accidentally" pushed his little butt in until it touched the water. Naturally, he totally freaked at this. When I got home from work that day, he was all, "Daddy! Mommy PUSHED ME INTO THE POTTY!!!" Tears in his eyes. The whole 9 yards.

Of course, for like 3 months he wouldn't let Mommy help him on the potty because he didn't trust her. During that time, only I had the privilege of being allowed to wipe his butt. My wife was exempt at Ian's insistence.

    Yeah - "accidentally" my @$$!

  4. That's a great story, Glaven. FUNNY! Mommy is a very smart lady. BTW, I am a little disappointed in the level of rudeness in these comments. Maybe you just don't have what it takes...
