sisters take the stage

When we were kids, my little sister and I put on all sorts of shows for our family and friends; there were plays, talent shows, puppet shows, dance routines, even a cooking show (how to make egg salad sandwiches). And when we didn't have an audience, we would often still dabble in the performing arts, making tapes of ourselves sounding like the Chipmunks or recording ourselves singing karaoke show-tunes. Somewhere I even have a tape stashed away of the two of us improving some bizarre version of Ding Dong the Witch is Dead - recorded only seven years ago!

That silly part of us will probably live on forever, and it seems to reemerge with gusto whenever we're together for an extended period of time, though maybe not with the same creativity or "professionalism" as when we were younger. But I'm happy to report that my own two girls are already taking after their mom and their aunt. The other morning I caught them doing this over and over again:

When asked if I could record them, Ellie agreed and quickly ran to put on a train engineer's hat (because no version of BINGO would be complete without one?) All I could think of was that Ryan and I are probably in for many more of these little performances in our future; I, for one, look forward to seeing every one (and maybe even joining in for a few, if they'll let me!)
